Janet Lee Thompson Brinkerhoff went to be with the Lord, February 4, 2023, at 6:19 a.m. after a lengthy battle with cancer. Her sister, Lisa Thompson Stagg, and son, Mark Lee Brinkerhoff, were by her side, providing comfort and support in her final days.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Brinkerhoff, and her parents, Leroy Thompson and Mary McLemore Thompson. She leaves behind her son, Mark Lee, and daughter-in-law Zorana Stricevic Brinkerhoff; grandchildren, AnnaSophia Joy and Bennett Asher Brinkerhoff; grandsons, Aaric Rylan and Liam Carson Brinkerhoff, and their mother, Anastasia Maxwell; sister, Lisa Thompson Stagg (Mark); nephew, Joshua Stagg; niece, Sarah Stagg Brown (Brennon); their children Hudson, Emery, and Caroline Brown; and many, many friends.

Janet was born on April 13, 1945, in Pampa, TX. Shortly afterwards, her family moved to Franklin, LA, then again to Ville Platte, LA, where she attended and graduated from Ville Platte High School, class of 1963. She attended Louisiana Tech University, where she met the love of her life, Charles Brinkerhoff. The couple married in 1967 and moved to Huntsville, AL, to begin their new life together.

Over the years, she worked at various department stores such as Eckerd Drugs, JC Penney, Castner Knott, and later at Wyle CAS Defense Contracting, from where she retired in 2012.

She and Charles loved to travel the world and have a great time! They also loved spending time with their son and grandchildren in Florida, and once surprised her sister’s family at the birth of her great-niece, Caroline.

She attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Ladies’ Sunday School class. She was a member of Preceptor Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years and served on various committees, as well as a member of GFWC/AFWC du Midi.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, role model, hero, and friend. She will be missed terribly.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 12, 1:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville; a chapel service will follow at 2:00 p.m., and a brief interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Harbor Hospice at the following address:

Harbor Foundation, 5210 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA 70605 (Please write in the memo, in memory of Janet Brinkerhoff.)
