Linda James Christian joined her savior on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the age of 78. She passed away peacefully beside her loving husband, Bob Christian and two daughters. Linda was born October 6, 1944 in Miami Florida to John and Eleanor James, Jr.
Linda met the love of her life, Bob Christian at Whitesburg Baptist Church in 1964 and married in January, 1965. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Alongside her loving husband, Bob, she was an active and foundational member of Whitesburg Baptist Church. Linda shared a joy and love for helping others. She served in countless roles throughout the years, supporting both the church and missions, such as Church Hostess, Wedding Director, and organizing / sewing the first floor to ceiling flag for the “I Love America” celebration as well as choir member drapes that stood/sung in the architectural structure that housed the flag. She also helped organize and sew countless choir and Spireno uniforms, school play/musical costumes and choir uniforms (middle school – college age), always finding a way to accommodate those with special needs.
Linda also shared her love of sewing and creativity with many friends throughout the years, not only with her church and community, but also with the store she entrepreneured/owned for nearly 30 years, Creative Sewing. She mentored both young and seasoned sewing enthusiasts, and had a heart for the thousands of lives she touched with her passion to share, inspire, and teach others to sew, whether beginning or advanced construction, heirloom, quilting, or other techniques. She loved each customer as a personal friend. It was not a rare occasion that she could be found quietly donating sewing machines, fabric, notions, etc. to those in need, philanthropic, or needs in the mission field.
Linda is survived by her husband; two daughters, Jeanne Christian Styles (Reverend Ben) and Carol Christian Joiner (Chris); grandchildren, Daniel Styles (Sharon), Nathan Styles (Emily), William Joiner, and Eleanor Ann Joiner; two great-grandchildren, Elijah Styles and Eliana Styles; special daughter-like nieces, Leighann Carey (James) and her daughter, Elena Strahan, Kristen Weston, Courtney Loyd, and Susan Todd as well as many other special great nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, John James Jr and Eleanor Cline James, her sister, Martha James Manning, and several nieces.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Whitesburg Baptist Church south campus Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life Service in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. There will be a family only graveside following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitesburg Baptist Church Music Ministry (which blessed her for almost 60 years), or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
