Walter Ronald “Ron” Thomas, 82, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2023. He was born in Athens, Alabama on October 16, 1940, to Walter Hilliard Thomas and Idelle McMahan Thomas. He graduated from Athens High School in 1959 and received a business degree from Athens State College. He was united in marriage to Agnes Elizabeth Jonakin for 47 years. Together they raised their daughters, Elizabeth and Katherine.
After a long career in banking, he retired to enjoy time with family, fishing, hunting, and Alabama football. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Ron is survived by his wife, Agnes Thomas of Huntsville; children, Elizabeth Tidwell (Patrick) of Madison, and Katherine Hendrickson (Joe) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Luke Tidwell, Jake Tidwell, Christopher Hendrickson and Natalie Hendrickson; brothers, Hilliard Lavoy Thomas and Gary Morgan Thomas, both of Athens; and sister, Mary Susan Coulter of Huntsville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Michael Allen Thomas.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with the Reverend Mac Buttram officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, in Huntsville, following the service.
