Mildred Ramon Merchent Correro, 80, died Saturday, December 31, 2022 at N. Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a sudden illness. Ramon was born in Tupelo on September 27, 1942 to Raymond Medical Merchent and Mildred Elizabeth Funderburk Merchant who were but one of the pioneering familes in East Tupelo. Ramon was the only living child of her parents and she was aptly named after her father. Ramon graduated in 1960 from Tupelo High School from and continued her education at MSCW, (Now MUW) in Columbus, completed her BA in education. Later earning her master’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi.

Ramon was a devoted beloved and dedicated teacher in the Tupelo Public School System for over 35 years. She was a longtime member of East Heights Baptist Church, of which her father was a founding member.

Ramon was blessed with a delightful personality, and was an icon who never met a stranger. Family always came first with her and she was in her “happy place” when with her loved ones. She had a tender servant’s heart.

After retiring, she could be found gardening and sitting on her back porch sipping coffee and studying the Bible. She loved all holidays and decorated her home to reflect them, always enjoying celebrating with family and friends. She will be sorely missed by her family, and a host of friends.

Services celebrating Ramon’s life will be held at 2 PM Monday, January 2nd 2022 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors- Tupelo with Pastor Brian Collier officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday and continue until service time. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends. Ramon is survived her husband, Carlo Correro of Tupelo; her son, Stephen Correrro(Janet) of Benton, AR; her daughter, Ginger Wilkinson of Tupelo; her grandson, Nicholas Raymond Robertson of Tupelo. Ramon is preceded in by her parents, Raymond and Mildred Merchant and her infant brothers.

The family request that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
