Luther Lewis Emery, 75, of Athens, passed away on Friday, December 16th, 2022, after a two-year battle with cancer. Mr. Emery was born on January 28th, 1947, to Burlin Emmett Emery and Mary Sue York Emery.
Mr. Emery’s family includes his wife of 35 years, Emma D. Emery; son Burlin Emery (Jennifer); daughters Willa Emery, Bobbie Acklin (Mike), and Emmaline Emery (Evan); stepson Ernie Labalan; stepdaughter Beth Labalan; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers John Emery (Kristie) and Jerry Emery (Kathy); sister Barbara Herald.
Funeral services for Mr. Emery will be held on Wednesday, December 21st, 2022, at 11:00am at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Charity Line Cemetery in Hazel Green.
Luther Emery was an avid storyteller, particularly fond of telling tales from his time in the Marine Corps. The stories could be rarely verified or challenged since he did retire as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He could usually be found sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch with a cigarette in hand and a well-worn paperback novel nearby. A genuine idea guy able to solve nearly any problem, but rarely there to implement the solution. A generous man, a stellar Marine and loving father. He will be missed.
