Peggy Alford Owens, age 93, of Houston, Alabama went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 5th, 2022.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Houston Memorial United Methodist Church, Houston, Alabama. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Becky Scott and Bob Alford officiating. Burial will follow in adjoining cemetery.

Peggy grew up in Houston, Alabama where the Alfords had a saw mill during and after the Great Depression. She was the oldest of the four Alford girls. She has fond memories of playing at Slick Ford and Saturday evenings around the radio with neighbors. She passed down her love for Smith Lake and for traveling to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Peggy also instilled in her family to be strong and courageous in the Lord. She loved Easter Sunday and other special times when the Houston Memorial UMC was filled with the Alford family.

Peggy was a faithful member of Houston First United Methodist Church. She often represented her United Methodist Women and her congregation at the North Alabama Conference meetings, staying abreast in the leadership decisions of the church.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Mitchell F. Owens; her parents, Mr. Owen and Mrs. Mary Alford; her sister, Mrs. Evelyn Sterling; and brother-in-law, Mr. Lanier Godsey.

Peggy is survived by her sisters Mrs. Owene Godsey (Carl) and Mrs. Betty Godsey. She was survived by her children, Mr. Mitchell Owens Jr. and Mrs. Carol Whitt (Steve). She was the grandmother of Mr. Mitchell B. Owens, Mr. Murry Whitt (CeCe), Dr. Holly Sutherland (Heath), Dr. John Owens (Stacey), Mr. David Owens (Tiffany), and Dr. Drew Owens (Carson). Peggy also was the proud great- grandmother of Casey, Hudson, and Maggie Whitt; Mitchell, Silas, Eve, Claire, and Meryl Owens; and Whitt and Will Sutherland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Houston Memorial UMC (Houston, AL), The Lion Legacy Fund (Haleyville High School), or Central Fire and Rescue of Houston, AL.
