Funeral services for Mr. Ernie Canfield, age 73 of Goodwater, will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church in Ashland at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Luckie officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church Cemetery.
Mr. Canfield was born in Birmingham, AL., where graduated from High School and later received his Bachelor’s Degree at UAB. While in Birmingham training for a Marathon he met his future Wife Nancy Basil. He later moved to the Atlanta, Georgia area and worked for several years as an insurance claims adjuster and later opened his own business, “Canfield & Company a Risk Management firm working for NASCAR and other Tracks performing track risk management assessments. He had a love for antique cars and muscle cars. He enjoyed NASCAR, rescuing animals, and listening to country music. He was known as the best “Sous Chef” in Clay County. Mr. Canfield was a history buff, enjoyed his time working in the garden, and was an avid Auburn fan.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy C. Canfield, of Goodwater; his daughter, Lisa Donalson (K.D.) of Prattville; a granddaughter, Katie Skinner of Helena; his sister, Dorothy Lindsey (James) of Springfield, Ohio; 2 nieces, Jennifer Butler and Elizabeth Dawson; various nieces, a nephew, and numerous extended family members and friends..
Mr. Canfield is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Carl Canfield, Sr. and Betty Bolyn Canfield.
Mr. Canfield’s visitation will take place on Monday, October 3, 2022 from 5:30-8:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland and until one hour prior to services on Tuesday. He will lie in state at the church for one hour.
Flowers will be accepted, however the family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org
