Funeral Services for Mr. Ben Harold Griffin Sr, age 89 of Ashland, will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. John Howell and Rev. Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Griffin passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Lineville Health and Rehab. He was a lifelong resident of Clay County, Lineville High School Graduate, and obtained his associates degree from Southern Union Community College. After college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent 2 years fighting during the Korean War. Upon his return, he served in the medical unit for the National Guard for 10 years. After his military service, he worked as a timber producer and pulp wooder for his own company for 40 years. He had also purchased Buck Creek Farm raising Brangus Beef cattle until the very end of his life. He was a part of the Lineville Masonic Lodge #219, the Alcazar Temple in Montgomery and apart of the Scottish Rites. Mr. Griffin was a loyal Auburn football season ticket holder and fan, enjoyed being outdoors and being an active member of Barfield Baptist Church. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and feeding his large catfish on the farm. Mr. Griffin was a humble and giving man, considered a workaholic, but always loved his family and always put them first.

Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of 65 and a half years, Phyllis Griffin; three sons: Ben Griffin Jr (Teresa) of Ashland, Don Griffin (Brindlea) of Phenix City, and Al Griffin (Natalie) of Greenville, Ga; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ann McKay of Birmingham and Janice Jenkins of Auburn; one brother, Pete Griffin (Katherine) of Lineville, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

He is preceded in death by his Parents: Robert Alvin Griffin and Inez Ward Griffin; his daughter, Sheron LeAnn Griffin; three sisters: Juanita Stewart, Margaret Strickland, and Elizabeth Latham; and three brother: Bill, Charles, and Jerry Griffin.

Shevy Glenn, Allen Flowers, Glenn Griffin, Tyler Griffin, Damon Griffin, and Gabe griffin will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Griffins Sunday school classmates from Barfield Baptist Church.

His visitation will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Sunday until service time at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations towards your favorite charity be made in Mr. Griffin’s honor.
