James A. Coker, age 86 of Winchester, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022, at his home. James was born on February 26, 1936, to James “Jim” Coker and Katie Walls Coker in Gum Creek. In 1956, he married his wife, Brenda, and they have three sons, Teddy, Timmy, and Tony. James worked as a machinist at Genesco for twenty-four years and then for thirty years at Batesville Casket, from which he retired. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching westerns, going to church, and being with his family. He was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church where he served for many years as deacon. James will be dearly missed and always remembered. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Katie Coker; his siblings, Hullin Coker, Sue Willie Payne, D.M. Coker, Charles Coker, Johnny Coker, and Elizabeth Simmons; and his son, Teddy Wayne Coker. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Brenda; sons, Timmy (Lynda) Coker and Tony Coker; grandchildren, Sarah Hall, Tony Coker Jr, Amy Coker, Nathan Coker, and Kaleb Coker; great-grandchildren, Katelin Reed, Jacob Ferrell, Madison Coker, and Kallie Grace Coker; as well as his brother-in-law, Victor Suddarth. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Life Celebration Center of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 5, 2022. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in James’ memory to the Tennessee Alzheimer Association or to Hospice Compassus of Tullahoma.
