ATHENS-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports a single-vehicle accident that took place on Wednesday has resulted in the death of one person:
“A single-vehicle crash at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, has claimed the life of a Huntsville man.
Michael Gene Preston, 43, was critically injured when the 2012 Honda Accord he was driving left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Preston was not utilizing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected. Preston was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash occurred on U.S. 72 near Sod Road, approximately three miles west of Athens, in Limestone County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
CULLMAN COUNTY-Te ALEA reports another crash on Wednesday, August 31 that has taken the life of one person. The multi-vehicle accident injured three other persons:
“A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, has claimed the life of a Vincennes, Ind., woman.
Ruth A. Bahr, 58, was fatally injured when the 2017 Buick Envision in which she was a passenger was struck in the rear by a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Davinder S. Marwah, 35, of Fresno, Calif. The impact caused the Buick to strike the guardrail. After the initial impact, the Volvo rear-ended a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Steven T. Allison, 56, of Florence. The impact caused the Nissan to strike the undercarriage of a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by Aushiana D. Ivy, 28, of Tupelo, Miss.
Both the driver of Buick, Gail L. Taylor, 63, of Enfield, Ill., and a second passenger of the Buick, Deborah Barmes, 65, of Vincennes, Ind., were injured. Taylor was transported to Cullman Regional for treatment, and Barmes was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital for treatment. The passenger of the Nissan, Tammy Lafayette Allison, 53, of Florence, was also injured and transported to Cullman Regional for treatment. The drivers of the Nissan and the Freightliner were not injured.
Bahr was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Interstate 65 near Alabama 91, approximately one mile north of Colony, in Cullman County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
