ATHENS-Athens-Limestone County Tourism promotes tourism in Athens as well as our surrounding communities in Limestone County including Ardmore, Clements, East Limestone, Elkmont, Lester, Mooresville, Piney Chapel, Tanner and West Limestone. Here are just a few events to help you enjoy fall for the month of September:

Sep 1-15, 2022 — Athens Storytelling Festival Early Bird Tickets  We’re moving our tent to the Athens State University Campus by Brown Hall. Don’t worry!  We’ll be an easy walk from the downtown square shops and restaurants we all enjoy. Tickets may be purchased on the website and at UG White Mercantile on the square in downtown Athens.  EARLY BIRD SPECIAL! Sep 1, 2022 — Athens Opry – Free Live Music 9:00 – 11:00 am – Every Thursday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 am, enjoy free live music at the Athens-Limestone Senior Center. 912 Pryor St. W., Athens, AL 35611. For more information call (256) 233-8740.

Sep 1 – Oct 27th 11:30 am – 12:30 Free Geneology Classes on Thursdays Athens-Limestone County Public Library  Join us as we learn the ins and outs of family history research. We can provide a laptop, or you can bring your own. Give us a call to register for this series! (256) 232-1233

Sep 1 – Dec 8th 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Book Club at Antiques on Jefferson Hosted by Athens Limestone County Public Library Book Club. This event located at Antiques on Jefferson 116 N Jefferson Street Athens, AL every Thursday. We’ll discuss authors, novels, and all things ‘book club’. Our goal is to meet people, talk books, and have fun.

Sep 2 – November 11 Friday Fall Music Series 5:30 pm.
Athens Main Street hosts live music in Merchant’s Alley every Friday September through November 11th.

Sep 3rd 8:00am – 9:30am – Veterans Coffee Call Veterans of all wars and their families are invited for breakfast and fellowship from 8:00AM-9:30AM at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive. 100 West Pryor Street Athens, AL 256-771-7578.

Sep 3, 2022 — The Trinity High School Alumni Reunion.  9:00 am Parade will begin from Westview St to downtown Athens followed by a picnic from Noon-3 pm at Jimmy W. Gill on Hine St.

Sep 3, 2022 — Run Like A Boss 5K Run/Walk 7:00AM. 27 Old U.S. 31 North. Tickets starting at $25.00. A benefit Run/Walk to bring awareness and support to those affected by cancer. We will have the race both in-person and virtually. Sep 3, 2022 — Cruise In on the Square 6:00 pm 200 W. Washington St. in downtown Athens around the Limestone County Courthouse – please leave parking on the North side of the square for restaurant patrons. Free and open to the public. All makes, all models of cars, trucks and motorcycles welcome. No judging.

Sep 7, 2022 – Legislative Update 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM. Please join the Chamber as it hosts 2022 Legislative Wrap Up Breakfast at the Athens State University Ballroom in the Sandridge Center. Legislators will be speaking about this past legislative session and the impact on Athens and Limestone County.

Sep 8, 2022 – Athens Limestone Hospital Foundation Crystal Cup Golf Tournament at Canebrake Golf Club.  Proceeds go towards the purchase of new gurney beds for One-Day Surgery. For more information contact Kristen Kittrell at kristenl@alhnet.org

Sep 9, 2022 – Haunt Walks Tickets on sale  Save the Date for Haunt Walks: October 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 & 27. Tickets: $15.00 each for ages 12 and up and 11 & under $10.00 each. Wagon Tours $25 each. Sep 10, 2022 — The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels to honor the heroes of 9/11 and those who’ve served our nations since.​The public is encouraged to line the route decked out in red, white, and blue or decorate their businesses and homes along the route and cheer on the runners. Click here to learn more

Sep 10, 2022 — Superhero Fun Day and Family Expo in Big Spring Memorial Park (100 North Beaty Street in Athens) with Eli’s Block Party from 10:00AM-4:00PM. Don your favorite superhero outfit, t-shirt or make-up your own for this special day to raise awareness of childhood cancer.  Parade, activities, vendors, fun run, music and more are packed into the day. Sep 10, 2022 —  The Rustic Willow Market Day 10:00am – 4:00pm Markets days are once a month April through October. These events are the perfect opportunity to shop and support around 100 small businesses at one time and place while enjoying friends, food trucks and shopping!

Sep 15 – Oct 15, 2022 — National Hispanic Heritage MonthThe Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

Sep 15, 2022 — 10th Annual Foundation for Mental Health Golf Tournament at Canebrake Club of Athens (23015 Founders Circle in Athens) from 11:30AM-5:00PM.  Individual player ($165.00) and teams ($660.00 foursome) welcome to enjoy the lunch, beverages and golf.  For more information or to register:  www.mhcnca.org/golf

Clinton St. in Athens, AL anytime between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm to see Fall Tablescapes and Floral Designs. Southern Bite will also be present. Sep 17, 2022 — 28th Annual Trail of Tears AL-TN Motorcycle Commemorative Ride This ride follows US 72 across northern Alabama from Bridgeport to Waterloo with a lunch stop celebration at Redstone Harley Davidson near Huntsville. The route leaves Bridgeport, AL at 8:00 am, to Redstone Harley-Davidson in Madison, AL for a 10:30am-Noon lunch stop; then to Waterloo, AL (official end of ride approx 2:30 pm). No reservation or fee required, Rain or Shine.  For more information: https://trail-of-tears.webflow.io/the-ride/this-years-ride

Sep 24, 2022 — Sons of Confederate Veterans Hosts 3rd Annual Commemoration of the 1864 Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the site of the battle near Elkmont, AL. Historians will be at the site to tell the story of the battle and men who fought it to mark the anniversary. Free and open to the public. Email camp768@alscv.org for more information.  ​

Sep 30, 2022 — The Lester Haunted Hospital kicks off their haunting season 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Continues every Friday and Saturday nights in October. www.thelesterhauntedhospital.com
