The Reverend Timothy Dawson Brown, widely known and loved as “Brother Tim” passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022.
Brother Tim dedicated his life to serving God’s people. He embodied Southern hospitality and often shared the refrain “I love to feed the folks I love.” He served as pastor of Cowan First Baptist Church from 1993 to 2017.
Brother Tim was born in Sylacauga, Alabama to Reverend Elmon Brown, Sr. and Janie Stevens Brown. He credited the strength of his faith to the example of his father and fervent prayers of his mother. The sixth of eleven children, Tim is preceded in death by his brothers Elmon Brown, Jr. and Steve Brown and is survived by his siblings Judy Lamb, Joel Brown, Rebecca Wells, Cynthia Williams, Ann Glover, John Brown, Paul Brown, and Sarah Brown.
Brother Tim’s love for the ministry was second only to the love for his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Melba Gail Driver Brown, and second wife, Teresa Mae Osborne Brown. He is survived by his daughters, Rachel Williamson, Janna McClain, and Emily Seal and his grandchildren, Lydia Bailey, Hannah Williamson, Luke Williamson, Daniel Williamson, Samson McClain, Vera McClain, and Eliot Seal.
Brother Tim was greatly beloved, and his loss is deeply felt. Visitation will be held Friday, July 15 from 6 to 8 pm at Cowan First Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 16 at 2 pm at Cowan First Baptist Church with graveside service at the Cowan Montgomery Cemetery immediately following. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed on the Cowan First Baptist Facebook page.
The family invites donations to the children and youth ministries at Cowan First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
