James L. Holeman, Sr., DSc, 86, of Huntsville, AL, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn Holeman: his children and their spouses, Gay and Dennis Schill and Jim and Leigh Ann Holeman; grandchildren, Kristine Passion, Jessica and husband Jon Roop, Jennifer and husband Kelly Elliott, and Christopher and wife Amber Holeman; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Y. and James O. Holeman.

Jim was born in Paducah, KY. He graduated with a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Florida, ultimately earning his master’s degree and his Doctorate degree. After working twenty-seven years as a civil servant, he retired and opened Holeman Scientific Corporation where he continued his love for engineering. Throughout his lifetime, he mentored many young engineers, always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who cared to learn. Jim was a lifetime member of IEEE, receiving an award of high achievement this year.

Jim met Marilyn at a Methodist gathering and the two were married in 1957. Jim was a member of Willowbrook Baptist Church. His love for his family and God was ever in the forefront of his thoughts.

He built the family home, was a pilot who passed that joy to his children, taught at Athens University and UAH, had a love for German shepherds, a love for reading, and worked with the American Red Cross during a disaster response. Many people were touched by him either by his wisdom, his actions, or his love. He will be missed by many, but by his family most of all.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with Dr. Mark McClelland and the Rev. Doug Merchant officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
