CHEROKEE-The Colbert County Sheriff’s Department received a call concerning the attempted abduction of a child in Cherokee near Riverton Rose Trail. A 14-yrear-old girl told authorities that she was in her front yard when a man dragged her into a wooded area near her home. She was able to escape and made it back to her home.
According to Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williams the suspect is a male around the age of 50 wearing a read hoodie, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. The suspect may have scratches and abrasions from being in the woods. He was last seen in Western Colbert County.
The Cherokee Police Department and the Muscle Shoals Police Department are assisting.

“At approximately 6:00pm on today’s date, March 15, 2022, the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Muscle Shoals Police Department Tactical Team in searching for a possible suspect in an attempted abduction case. The MSPD Tactical Team responded to the area of Riverton Rose Trail, west of Cherokee, Alabama, shortly after 6:00pm this evening.
The MSPD Tactical Team is still in that area as of 8:30pm tonight, assisting the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department in locating a possible suspect who ran into a wooded area.
The Muscle Shoals Police Department is only an assisting agency in this incident and the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department is the lead agency. At this time please direct any and all questions to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department.
