Before his passing Feb. 8, 2013, David Underwood. of Muscle Shoals, forged a 78-year-old trail of laughter, generosity and compassion. He faced his long-term illness with dignity and courage.
A lifelong resident of Colbert County, David graduated from Mars Hill Bible School where he sang in the quartet. After graduation, David joined the Army serving in Paris where he earned Cosmic Top-Secret security clearance. After the Army, he began a long career in sales ultimately creating his own advertising business.
As a younger man, David coached pee wee football, rode motorcycles with his son and was the voice of Muscle Shoals football, announcing Trojan games for over 30 years. In his later years, he enjoyed growing tomatoes, watching Alabama football, caring for his beloved dogs and playing guitar and harmonica in several local bands. He will be remembered as a mentor and role model to many for his 20 years of service on the Muscle Shoals Civil Service Board. One of the all-time great practical jokers, David’s sense of humor was unforgettable. In short, he had a terrific life!
David leaves his wife Charlotte; daughter, Karla Turner (David); son, Greg (Lisa); four grandchildren, David III, Will and Charlotte Turner and Elizabeth Underwood, and countless friends.
