Helen Anita Hankins, 70, of Killeen, TX, passed away on February 1, 2022.

Anita, as she liked to be called, was born in Hackleburg, AL on June 23, 1951 and grew up in Detroit, MI.  She married Jimmy Davis Hankins on January 8, 1968, and lived in Taylor, MI for 30 years before moving to Vernon, AL in retirement.  She lived in Vernon up until her husband’s death and then moved to Killeen, Texas.

Anita was a loving mother to Jimmy Davis Hankins of Killeen, TX, and Robert Wayne Hankins (Molly) of South Lyon, MI.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Davis Hankins; her son, James Eric Hill; her parents, RC and Mary Frances Adams Hill; and brothers, Lloyd and Roger Hill.

Anita was a grandmother of nine:  Christopher Hill, Zachary Hill, Tyler Hill, Mary Hill, Joanna Hankins Estrada (Pedro), James Hankins, Julian Hankins, Noah Hankins, and Charlotte Hankins.  She had six great grandchildren: Annabelle Hill, Serenity Hill, Zachary Hill II, Carlos Triana, Athena Estrada, and Diana Estrada.

Anita loved her family greatly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She was an avid baseball fan of both the Detroit Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.  She knew every episode of Matlock and CSI, and sang along with Conway Twitty, Alan Jackson, and maybe even a little Elvis.  She had a soft spot for animals and supported the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Family visitation is Saturday, February 12 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon, AL with a general gathering from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM.  Funeral service from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Oakes Chapel in Vernon, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Anita’s name to ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929, or go online to www.aspca.org.
