Carrie Norman Sherer passed away at Harbor Chase Assisted Living on Friday, February 4, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 96 years of age and the sole survivor of eight siblings.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, February 8, 2022, from 5:00–7:00 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Tommy Alford on Wednesday at 10:00 am in the chapel at Collins-Burke. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Sherer was a seamstress who made beautiful quilts and other handmade crafts. She had been a resident of Harbor Chase for over three years and was affectionally known as “Granny” by the employees there.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Angeline Abbott Norman, her spouse Howard “Bear” Sherer, an infant daughter Wanda Carolyn Spain and two great-grandchildren Peyton and Erin Spain.

She is survived by her son Charles Spain and his wife Shirley, granddaughters Tina Kizziah and her husband Gary, Sandy McPhaul and her husband Johnny and grandson Chris Spain and his wife Tracie. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and thanks to the employees of Harbor Chase Assisted Living Memory Care and Kindred Hospice.
