Edith Ellen (Swanson) Batten, age 88, of Trinity, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Her family will host a private memorial service for family and friends at a later date in Virginia. Shelton Funeral Home is assisting with local arrangements.
Mrs. Batten was born September 27, 1933, in New York, to Oscar Henry Swanson and Edith Marian Kammer Swanson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Batten, one son, Timmy O’Toole, her parents, and one son-in-law, Timmy Woody. Granny lived life fiercely to the beat of her own drummer. She was strong and independent until the end. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Linda Lawson (Bobby), Diana Gulley (Gary), Terry Johnson (Mike), Tony Santana (Melody), and Mitzi Santana, all of Virginia, and Jackie Hicks (Gabe) of Alabama; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and her canine companions, Biskit and Joey, who were her world.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
