Richard F. Olson, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, December 23rd at the tender age of 87. He was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. After marrying his sweetheart, Shirley Hestness, and graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Electrical Engineering, they moved to California where he worked for Hughes Aircraft and Lockheed. While in California, he was blessed to become the father of five children! He then moved his family to Huntsville, AL to work for SCI until he retired in 2001. Richard loved the Lord and his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling and good food, and especially enjoyed combining as many of these things together at one time as possible! He was preceded in the journey home by his two sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Virginia Solomonson, and two of his daughters, Christine Olson and Cynthia Wharton. He left behind his wife of 66 years, Shirley Olson; his daughter, Cheryl Campbell (Ron); his two sons, Richard Olson, Jr. (Deborah) and Charles Olson (Teresa); and many grand and great-grandchildren! Visitation will be held on January 7, 2022, from noon until 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church (3321 Memorial Parkway SW, Huntsville, AL 35801) followed immediately by his Celebration of Life and Freedom, officiated by Pastor Russ Gipson in the church sanctuary. Richard’s interment will follow the service at Locust Grove Baptist Church (171 County Lake Rd, New Market, AL 35761). In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Grace Lutheran Church or Samaritan’s Purse.
