Violet Olmsted Winer, 83, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021, at her home in Huntsville, Alabama. Violet was born to Cruise and Thelma Hopkins on June 25, 1938, in St. Francois County, Missouri. She was loved by all who had the opportunity to meet her, and she will be greatly missed.

Violet lived in this area most of her adult life while keeping a connection to her home state of Missouri. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and a former volunteer to the Red Cross at Huntsville Hospital for 20 plus years. Her working life culminated in her retirement as Fire Chief Secretary for the Huntsville Fire Department.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hugh J. Winer, and sister, Pat Hartman.

Survivors include her five children, Christy (Delbert) Langford of Huntsville, AL, Dana (Jim) Lyons of Pueblo, CO, Greg (Beverly) Olmsted of Huntsville, AL, Brad (Karen) Olmsted of Liberty, NC, and Susan (Chip) Alexander of Decatur, AL; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Sherwood Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Don Paris officiating.

The family will meet for a private graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery.
