Funeral service for Albert Wren “Al” Hughes, age 78, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Joe McKaig officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hughes, who died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born May 12, 1943, in St. Petersburg, FL, to Albert Gilmore Hughes and Clara Jean Wren Hughes Bearden. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Monica Selena Hughes, and his parents. Mr. Hughes was a chemical operator for Chemstrand.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Wheeler Hughes of Decatur; two sons, Albert Mark Hughes (Pamm) of Alabaster and Jonathan R. Hughes of Bullock; one daughter, Sonja Lyle of Louisiana; one brother, Forrest Hughes of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Janice Knowles (Tommy) of Gladeville, TN and Kay Ellis of Vestavia Hills; three grandchildren, Ryan Lyle (Jamie) of Louisiana, Tyler Nichols (Adelia) of Alabaster, and Hunter Gassaway of Alabaster; and seven great-grandchildren, Collin, Brian, Dakota, Starr, Serenity, Ty, and Eli.
