Mrs. Marlilyn Sherrer, age 75 of Hackneyville, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Russell Medical Center. There are no services planned at this time.
Mrs. Sherrer was born in Blount County, but had lived most of her life in Tallapoosa County. She worked for a few years at the Cotton Mill and was a Pipe Line laborer with her husband for most of her life. Mrs. Sherrer loved children, flowers and cooking. She was a big Christian that loved the lord and was an independent woman of many trades. Mrs. Sherrer enjoyed cutting grass, remodeling her house, and anything hands on that she could do. She enjoyed watching both Alabama and Auburn football, but when it came to the Iron Bowl, she was an avid Auburn fan. Mrs. Sherrer was also a dog lover that loved collecting wind chimes, angels and what nots.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John “Wayne” Sherrer of Hackneyville, three daughters: Machelle Peters of Alexander City, Mary Henry of Ashville and Carolyn Richardson (Randy) of Ashland, four sons: Matthew Sherrer (Sherry) of Texas, William Sherrer of Alexander City, James Sherrer of Mellow Valley and Christopher Sherrer of Hackneyville, seven grandchildren: Londyn Sherrer, Jason Henry (Angel), Cynthia Sherrer, Travis Sherrer, Dexter Peters (Katlin), Attie Hayes and Andrew Sherrer (Christie), seven great-grandchildren: Elijah, Izayah, Jayden, Kindrick, Max, Grayson and Caleb, her sister, June Hampton, plus extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Arthur Hampton and Elfie Lawson Hampton, her grandson, Oscar Sherrer, five sisters and five brothers.
Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
