obituary image McDonald Carter died October 19th at Huntsville Hospital. Born August 31, 1926, in Laurinburg, NC, she was the daughter of the late Niley Mattie and Daniel Thaddeus McDonald. Niley was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. William Carter, siblings, Daniel, James and Elizabeth, and her nephew, James McDonald, Jr. She is survived by her stepchildren, Julia Carter (Tom) of Huntsville, William Carter, Jr. (Caroline) of Tuscaloosa, and Philip Carter of Austin, TX; nieces and nephews, Anne Sprouse (Lee) and Dan McDonald of Laurinburg, NC, Martha McDonald (Art) of Harwinton, CT, and Elizabeth Leaverton (Michael) of Livermore, CO; and grandchildren, Kathryn Carter and Tyler Carter (Brooke).

Niley was a sweet and fun-loving person with a infectiously wonderful laugh, a true Southern Belle. She was an accomplished golfer and member of the Mooreland Fox Hunt, serving as Hunt Ball Chairman and Field Master for a time. Niley and Bill traveled and enjoyed snow skiing, camping, boating and a good cocktail party with friends.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family would like to express its appreciation to Betty Allen, the staff of Magnolia Trace and Huntsville Hospital, and to Dr Jack Moody for their loving care.

Niley loved her boxers, thus memorial contributions can be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
