George William Wilson, 86, of Athens, AL  passed away on October 15, 2021 in Madison, AL.

George was born in Bradenton, FL  to James & Daisy Wilson on April 7, 1935. He went to high school at Manatee High School and graduated in 1953.

He went on to serve as an officer in the United States Army for 25 years. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, was stationed all over the world, and was awarded many honors, including the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Purple Heart. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, traveling, and being a little stinker.

George is survived by his wife Oweella, his daughter Dawn, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Eugene William, his brother Clarence Wilson, his sister Louise Helton, and his brother Buddy Wilson.

A funeral service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Thursday, October 21 at 12 o’clock noon with a viewing prior to at 11 o’clock with Father Brian Lowe of St. John the Baptist officiating. Burial will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens, 6810 University Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35806. Reception to follow back at St John the Baptist Church.
