Ruby Nevil Covington, age 99, of Portland, TN, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at her home. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 2pm in the Cross Plains Cemetery. Burial will follow with Jay Wright, Jeff Taylor, John Raymond Traughber, Barry Faulkner, Dan Green and Stephen Yates serving as pallbearers.
Private visitation will be held at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield prior to the graveside service.
Mrs. Covington was born August 16, 1922 in Trimble, TN to the late James Ruben and Leeona Botts Nevil. She worked as a sales clerk at Castner Knott and was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church. She was a Cross Plains historian, started Cross Plains Trash and Treasure and the Cross Plains Historical Society, and loved genealogy.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Covington is preceded in death by her husband, James Covington. She is survived by her daughter, Jama Nevil (Nelson) Wright; sisters, Mickey Mullins and Mary Clymer; grandson, Jay (Carie) Wright; great-grandchildren, Sadie Wright and Saylor Wright; 1 nephew; and 3 nieces.
