Bobbie Kallam, thirty-eight-year resident of Anchorage, Alaska, died peacefully on Tuesday, 18 May 2021, in Cullman, Alabama at the age of 86. Loving Army wife, world traveler, and mother of four, she will be missed by all that came to know her.

She was born on January 4, 1935 in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Charles and Catherine Brown, the second of three daughters (Ann, Bobbie, and Faye).

Bobbie married her high school sweetheart, Luther Price Kallam Jr., on 17 January 1953. Together they lived the Army life – traveling the world for over twenty-nine years, raising four children, Tom, Jerry, Hans, and DeeDee.

Bobbie and Luther started their travels shortly after high school, and what an adventurous life it was. Luther was career Army (enlisted to Officer). Their travels took them to multiple duty stations in the United States and overseas to Germany (for two tours), then Korea, before finally settling in Anchorage, Alaska.

As a soldier, Luther spent multiple tours in war zones or training, leaving Bobbie to manage the household and raise their four children. No sooner would the moving boxes be emptied, the kids settled in school, new orders would come down for the next move. Bobbie took it in stride cleaning up the old place and prettying up the new place the family would call home.

Bobbie was a proud homemaker, exceptionally creative, and very frugal. She loved her children, music, poetry, and spent her free time painting, arranging flowers, and gardening. She played piano and harmonica by ear and loved to entertain and sing her favorite songs with her children.

When Army retirement came, she settled in Anchorage, Alaska. Bobbie spent her summers gardening, biking along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and hiking at Alyeska Ski Resort. Alaska provided plenty of activity, entertainment, and challenging winters. From running into bears when walking to the mailbox, shoveling the roof in winter, to staring down a bull moose while weeding the yard. She loved the wildlife and adventure of everyday life in Alaska.

In the final years of her life, she relocated to Alabama and continued her love of poetry, music, and became known as the “Dancing Queen” to her final days.

Bobbie will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther. She is survived by her four children, two grandchildren (Jen and Andy), and her great grandson, Colton.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Alaska where her ashes and those of her husband’s Luther, will be spread in the beauty and splendor they called home.

Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Doctor’s, Management, and the awesome staff of Redstone Village in Huntsville, Alabama, and Woodland Village in Cullman, Alabama for the loving care and attention they provided to Bobbie. They are true Health and Elder Care professionals.
