Floyd D. "Wheeltap" Johnson Floyd D. “Wheeltap” Johnson, 82, of Paint Rock, passed away Sunday.

Floyd was the oldest of nine children born to Emmitt & Rosie Moon Johnson. His friends called him “Wheeltap”. He picked the nickname at an early age. He was well known for his sliced bologna sandwiches and hoop cheese at Johnson’s Grocery in Paint Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by father, Emmett Johnson; mother, Rosie Moon Johnson; son, Michael Dewayne Johnson; sister, Minnie Kimbrough; and brother, John Thomas “Tom” Johnson.

Surviving are wife, Mary Ann Smith Johnson; sons, Samuel Phillip Johnson (Lori) and David Eugene Johnson (Kimberly); daughter, Karen Johnson Colwell (Earl); special pet, Sassy; grandchildren, Jeremy Ryan Hammons, Lindsey Beth McIntire, Tamara Ann Colwell, Michael Keith Colwell and Michelle Hill Luna; brothers, Melvin Johnson (Linda), Lance Johnson, Jim Johnson (Tena), and Ray Johnson (Connie); sisters, Lillian Rousseau (Glenn), Mary Ann Maples (Danny); and numerous nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Johnson, David Johnson, Terry Boyd, Curtis Kimbrough, Dennis Rousseau, and Roger Rousseau.

Visitation will be Tuesday 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday at 3:00 PM with Elder Fae Harwell officiating.

Interment will be in the Guerin Cemetery.
