Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine E. Jackson, age 97, will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 in the Union United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM until 8 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until service time at the church. All services will follow the appropriate social distancing protocols, with face masks required, as set forth by the CDC and state of Tennessee.
Mrs. Jackson was born March 2, 1924 in the Laneview community of Trenton to Ernest and Nannie Gordon. The oldest of seven, she graduated Peabody High School in 1941 and attended Nashville Business College. She worked at the Milan Arsenal, the Red Cross and spent 30 years in the Gibson County Court Clerk’s Office with the last 16 of those as the elected County Court Clerk. She also prepared income tax returns for way over half of her 97 years. Mrs. Jackson passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jackson; parents Ernest and Nannie Gordon; brothers, Charles Gordon and Sonny Gordon; and sisters, Mary Helen Summars and Florence Ball.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her children, Ricky (Rachel) Jackson, Irvin Jackson and Sally (Adam) Ragsdale; two sisters, Doris Inman and Nancy Warren; four grandchildren; Chris Jackson, Todd Walker, Ella Ragsdale and Sydney Hooper; and four great grandchildren, Julie Jackson, Carter Jackson, Mia Walker and Lydia Walker.
She was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Methodist Church, the Union Methodist Church Building Fund or the Union Methodist Church Frank Knight Memorial Fund.
