James Eckford Jones, Jr. passed away peacefully Monday morning at his home with family beside him. Eckford was 87. Mr. Jones was born January 9, 1934 in Humphreys County (Belzoni), Mississippi. He was an alumnus of Mississippi State University, Class of 1955, and was a Sigma Chi. Mr. Jones also received his master’s degree in Accounting at Alabama A&M University while employed as an auditor at Redstone Arsenal. He retired from Finance and Accounting in 1996 with 42 years of service, including serving in the US Navy.
Mr. Jones loved golf, traveling, square dancing, running, and various organizations at Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Eckford Jones, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Si Donia Jones; son, James E. Jones III and wife, Eve; daughter, Suzanne Wesley (Todd); grandchildren, First Lt. Air Force Justin Jones, Jodie Jones, Michael Wesley (Rachel), Kyle Wesley (Hope), and Lee Ann Wesley; and sister, Mrs. Betty Anne McMillan.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a memorial service immediately following at the church.
