FLORENCE-The Salvation Army of the Shoals representatives visited City Hall on Tuesday, February 3 to reassure City officials of their long-standing commitment of services for anyone hungry or homeless.

The Salvation Army offers free meals, no strings attached, nightly from 6 pm – 7 pm for anyone who is hungry. Meals can be taken to-go.  If you or anyone you know in our community needs a meal or wishes to get more information, please visit the Salvation Army at 1601 Huntsville Road or call 256-764-4432.

Captains Benjamin and Wendy Deuel explained, “We are committed to feeding anyone hungry with a hot meal or lunch to-go in the Center of Hope. Anyone can knock on the door and receive food.”

The Tuesday and Thursday Day Center Program provides a social worker on site to assist with the “whole” person and coordinates various services including shelter, life skills, clothing, mental health services, and social services.”

There are three family unit areas that provide intensive support for the entire family unit.  This includes shelter, case management, job training, and counseling.

“Over the month of February, we have offered a Sack of Love program to give everyone a snack pack.  During the month of March, we will launch the Peanut Butter Meets Jelly campaign.  We will be handing out jars of peanut butter, jelly and loaves of bread in the surrounding areas.  If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out.  We need volunteers and partners,” shared Charlotte Vanderson, Salvation Army Social Worker.
