Ila M. “Granny” Caldwell

The funeral service for Mrs. Ila M. “Granny” Caldwell, age 97 of Cragford, will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church in Cragford with Rev. Richie Farrow and Rev. Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church South Cemetery.

Mrs. Caldwell passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Clay County Hospital. She was a native of Clay County and lived here most of her life. She lived in Columbus, GA for several years where she worked at Wells Dairy, after moving back to Clay County she became the head teller at the Bank of Wadley, then the lunchroom manager at Mellow Valley High School and finally the lunchroom manager at Wellborn Cabinets. She was a lifelong member of Corinth Baptist Church in Cragford and truly loved her church family. Granny loved taking care of her yard, cutting the grass and keeping it well-manicured. She loved to quilt and cook and adored her family.

Mrs. Caldwell is survived by seven grandchildren: Lisa Caldwell (TC) of Wadley, Michael Caldwell (Traci) of Auburn, Sherri Ferguson Hawkins (Kerry) of New Site, Laura Caldwell of Auburn, Marc Caldwell (Donna) of Eufaula, Steven Ferguson (Beth) of Shilo and Lindsay Caldwell Head (Don) of Eufaula: sister: Janice McVay (Dwight) of Cragford; brother: Jimmy Moncus (Barbara) of Cragford; 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Richard Hoyt Moncus and Clara Elizabeth McLain Moncus; her husband of 35 years Ted Caldwell; her children: Bobby Caldwell, Donnie Rayburn Caldwell, Sandra Moore and infant Robert Wendell Caldwell; sisters: Jean Bassett and Faye Farris; brother; Fred Moncus..

Mrs. Caldwell’s pallbearers will be Clay Colley, Steven Ferguson, Michael Caldwell, Marc Caldwell, Garrett Meek and Luke Ferguson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville and for one hour prior to the service at Corinth.
