ATHENS-On Thursday, January 16 Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the shooting of a 4-year-old child in Athens:
“Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, January 15) the police department received a call from Athens Limestone Hospital about a 4 year old child being shot in the leg.
Officers and investigators arrived at the hospital and talked with the mother and father of the child. The preliminary investigation suggest the shooting was accidental. The 9mm bullet travelled through both of the child’s legs then lodged in a couch. The father rushed the child to the emergency room for treatment.
The incident occurred on Aretha Street. The child’s injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening.
The investigation into this incident is continuing and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time about this case at this time.”
