Mr. Rodger Dean Hill, Sr., 72, of Langston passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Huntsville Hospital following several years of declining health. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Hill was born December 10, 1947, in Paducah, Kentucky. At the age of 12, he was rescued from at house fire at the family home by his brother, Danny, who gave him the ultimate sacrifice, his own life. He married the love of his life, Joye Bartlett, on October 7, 1965. Shortly after getting married, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hill worked as a Union Pipe Foreman for many years until a disabling injury forced him to retire. He had a love for antique cars. He loved his family with all his heart, holding a special place there for all his grandkids, especially his grandson Logan.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 54 years of marriage, Joye Hill, of Langston; Children: Angel (Robert) Headrick of Section, Rodger (Nicole) Hill, Jr. of Section, Jessica (Joshua) Atchley of Resaca, GA, and Veronica (Eric) Perry of Section; Grandchildren: Logan Hill, Courtney (Austin) Morgan, Lance Corporal Kyle (Lily) Hill of the United States Marines, Morgan Atchley, Samuel Atchley, Jaeden Atchley, Noah Atchley, and Maggie Atchley. Great Grandchildren: Nova Rae Morgan and Baby Morgan due May 2020; Step-Grandchildren: Dakota Maness, Blade Holcomb, Trae Holcomb; Siblings: Jimmie Hill of Hytop, Joyce(Gary) DeRossett of Paducah, KY, Thelma (Loyd) Knight of Seattle, WA; Several nieces and nephews; His church family at Saved by Grace Worship Center , whom he loved and cherished dearly, a multitude of friends; and by his beloved K-9 companion Panda Bear.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn and Minnie Hill; his brother, Danny Hill; infant sister Gertrude Hill, and by his sister-in-law, Brenda Hill.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9 from 5-9 pm and Friday, January 10 from 9 am-12pm at the Scottsboro Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10 at 12 pm at the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Anthony Dikerson and Pastor Gary DeRossett officiating.
Pallbearers are Rodger Hill, Jr., Joshua Atchley, Eric Perry, Logan Hill, Lance Corporal Kyle Hill, and Samuel Atchley.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jaeden Atchley, Noah Atchley, Dakota Maness, Blade Holcomb, and Trey Holcomb
Burial will follow at the Langston Cemetery, Langston, AL
