ANDERSON-On Sunday, December 29 a Rogersville woman, Jenna Elizabeth Williams, 20 drowned after her car was swept into the waters of swollen Anderson Creek.
This accident happened after the area received more than two inches of rain on Sunday. According to authorities the victim and her car were found after the water of the creek began to recede.
Around 6:15 PM EMA got a call on Sunday and responded to the area. Sheriff Rick Singleton called the accident a tragic situation. According to Singleton the mother could not reach her daughter and she became concerned. She then drove to the area where the accident occurred on Lauderdale 50 and her vehicle was washed from the roadway.
The victim’s mother was in the car when it was swept into the creek but was able to get out of the vehicle and was clinging to a tree when help arrived. She was rescued with use of an inflatable boat.
According to the Anderson Volunteer Fire Chief Joey Phillips the first call was for a missing vehicle. When the firefighters arrived the search ended with three vehicles being recovered with two survivors and one person deceased. A man standing on top of his vehicle was rescued using ropes as well.
Volunteer firefighters from Anderson, Rogersville, Lexington, Mid-Lauderdale and Killen departments, as well as members of Florence Fire Rescue, responded to the scene.
