Wilson Dewey SmithSurrounded by his loved ones, Wilson Smith, 87, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on November 21, 2019. Wilson was born on November 17, 1932 in Paint Rock Valley. After graduating from Huntsville High School, he went on to study at the University of Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation, Wilson served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant. At the conclusion of his active duty with our military and with the huge boom in Huntsville’s growth, he joined forces with his father in the construction business where he oversaw the development and construction of multiple homes and commercial complexes primarily used by our medical community. Years later, he ventured out on his own but continued in the development business until he semi-retired in his mid-fifties. His great passions in life were spending time at the lake, farm, and yelling “Roll Tide” for his beloved Alabama football team.

Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson D. Smith, Sr. “W.D.” and Verna Sansing Smith, together with his in-laws, Willi and Elisabeth Segewitz. He is survived by the love of his life, Heide Segewitz Smith; his children, Russell H. Smith, Caroline Smith Lightfoot (Robert), and Scott A. Smith (Tran); his grandchildren, Kelsey Lightfoot, Haley Lightfoot Johnson (Philip), Whitney Smith, Riley Smith, Leah Smith, Jackson Smith, and Ava Smith; his great-grandson, Wyatt Johnson; his brother and sister-in-law, Billy H. and Dean Smith; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Manfred and Rita Segewitz; together with several nieces and nephews – all of who he was so proud of and loved dearly.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 1:00- 2:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A private graveside service for immediate family will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank the Rao Kakani family and the Ramann Nallamala family for their friendship, compassion, and medical treatment of our family throughout the years. You are cherished and appreciated more than you know.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the charity of your choosing.
