Bill Fondren, 86, passed away Sunday after a lengthy illness. Bill was the son of the late Daniel Webster Fondren and Leola Morris Fondren. He was married for 61 years to the love of his life, Carolyn Enfinger Fondren. He is survived by two brothers, Archie Fondren (Sue) and Jimmy Ray Fondren (Pat); and sister, Fay Wright. Bill’s greatest joy was his family, including daughters, Debbie Stump (Kent), and Janet Pinczewski (Geno), grandchildren, Brian Stump (Nicole), Shannon Stump, Ericka Tipps (Ford), and Trey Pinczewski, and great-grandchildren, Cora Stump and Collins Tipps. To his family and friends, he was an inspiration and known for his kindness and gentleness.
Bill served three years in the U.S. Marine Corp before attending Auburn University where he studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1960. The largest part of his career was spent with the Army Missile Command. After retiring from AMC, he spent several years working in private industry.
Visitation will be from 11 to 1 on Thursday, October 31 at First United Methodist Church. A celebration of his life will follow at the church with the Revs. Coy Hallmark and Bill Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or other outreach missions.
