Elmer Oscar Simmons, age 93 of Athens, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Simmons was born January 24, 1926 in Tiptonville, TN to John Oscar Simmons and Myrtle Mae Droke Simmons.
Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. with Eddie Littrell and Donny Miller officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Reunion Cemetery.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII.
He is survived by his children, Charlene Schrimsher, Eddie Simmons (Patricia), Rhonda Moore (Larry) and Rita Simmons; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings; wife, Vera Mevarene; daughter, Deborah Simmons.
Pallbearers are Jason Looney, Benji Partlow, Chad Simmons, Daniel Moore, Tommy Hyatt and Dakota Meadows. Honorary pallbearers are Brayden Edwards, Clay Hyatt, Seth Partlow, Davidson Moore and Larry Moore.
