Robert Jerry Weatherby, age 78, was reunited in heaven with his wife of 55 years, Peggy, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
His visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2019 from noon to 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Darrel Pace of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Jerry will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
He was born July 20, 1940 to Joseph E. and Angie P. Weatherby. After graduation from Deshler High School in 1958 he enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country for six years. He married Peggy Swaim on June 12, 1961. After his discharge from the Navy in 1965, he returned home to Tuscumbia and finished his education at the University of North Alabama, where he received a B.S. degree in accounting and also received his MBA in 1980. He was employed at Reynolds Metals Company and Wise Metals for 37-1/2 years. He served as a deacon for many years at Calvary Baptist Church. He and Peggy both volunteered at Helen Keller Hospital for many years until leaving due to declining health.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Peggy; his parents; in-laws, Sam and Eva Swaim; nephew, Joey Thornton; brothers-in-law, Lunie Swaim, Earl Choat and Roger Black; and sisters-in-law, Jo Swaim and Jean McNeal.
He is survived by his daughters, Jenny Mitchell (Wiley), Sharon Shepherd (Jim); granddaughters, Whitney Woodis, Mallory Kimbrough (Justin), McKenzie Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Gunner and Case Woodis, Ava and Landon Kimbrough; sisters, Peggy Hester (Alton), Nancy Thornton (Larry); and sisters-in-law, Betty Vines, Sue Inman (Joe), Polly Robison (Jack) and Jane Black.
Pallbearers will be Wiley Mitchell, Jim Shepherd, Alton Hester, Larry Thornton, Eric Hester and Sam McClure.
Special thanks to the staff at Mitchell Hollingsworth, Dr. Jack McLendon, and Community Care Hospice. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Jerry will always be remembered for being a sweet, kind and loving person. He was always so proud of his three granddaughters and his four great-grandchildren.
