Martha Ann Regan Powers, 61, of Huntsville, passed away March 15, 2019. Originally from Hingham, Massachusetts, Martha Ann “Mart” called Huntsville her home since 1989. She met her husband of 39 years, James “Jim”, when they were introduced on a blind date at the University of Vermont during the winter of 1976. She was a lifelong lover of ocean waters, beaches, and boats. She and Jim frequently visited Pensacola Beach, where another love of hers was to watch the Navy Blue Angels perform and have her feet in the white sandy beaches.
Mart and Jim raised three boys, Jeffrey of Hoover, Matthew of Madison, and Brian of Huntsville. Martha Ann was active in the Huntsville community as a member of the PTA when her boys were in school, team mom for a variety of youth sports teams, and a diving judge for Jones Valley Association (JVRA). During the summer months she could almost always be found with her friends at the JVRA Pool, swimming, conversing, and soaking up sunshine. She presided over a typical divided household, as her sons, Jeffrey and Brian, attended Auburn University while Matthew went to the University of Alabama, but to this day the Powers household has never lost an Iron Bowl game.
In addition to her husband and sons, she is survived by her daughters-in-law, Stephanie Powers of Hoover, Kathleen “Kasey” Powers of Madison; grandsons, Wilkes and Jude Powers of Hoover; and her beloved lap dog, Lillie. Her family of siblings, Thomas Leo Regan III of Maine, Andrew Regan of Colorado, Carol “Carrie” Will of Maryland and Patricia “Tricia” Buzzell of Virginia will sorely miss her frequent and numerous phone calls and texts, as well as Facebook posts.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 13550 Chaney Thompson Road, Huntsville on March 29th at 12 p.m., with visitation at 11 a.m. Her ashes will be placed at the Good Shepherd Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Russell Hill Cancer Foundation, 3601 CCI Drive Huntsville 35805. www.russellhill.org/donate .
