RET MSG Donnie Ray Gilstrap, 78 of New Market, AL passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Ray and Gertrude Gilstrap; son, Richard Gilstrap.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Donna Gilstrap; two daughters, Mary Raines (Delbert), Rebecca Gilstrap; two sons, Joe Gilstrap (Sylvia), Nick Gilstrap; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Donna Bailey (Dale).
Donnie served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his military career, he became a contractor for Pioneer Roofing, where he worked for 20+ years. In his spare time, he enjoyed painting and drawing. Donnie was also a former Bull Rider.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Jessie L. Wright will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00pm in Valhalla’s Chapel. Interment will immediately follow services at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Valor Garden with Full Military Honors.
