Jewel “Judy” Scarbrough
Jewel Ledford Oliver Scarbrough, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at her residence in Pontotoc Co. after a long battle with dementia. Jewel was born in Crandal, Ga. on Jan. 2, 1930 to the late Thomas and Fannie Mae Mantooth Ledford. She spent her childhood and early adult life in Georgia. Jewel married Bryan Scarbrough, on Sept. 4, l962 and relocated to Mississippi where she has since lived. She and Rev. Scarbrough served in many United Methodist Conference Churches in their over 50 years of ministry. A housewife, she attended Shady Grove United Methodist Church and enjoyed crafts, sewing, growing flower and gardening over her long life.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Lannis May officiating. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Thursday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Friday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Cohutta, Ga.
Jewel leaves her sons, John Kenneth Oliver (Madeline), Michael Tennis Oliver (Darlene), Samuel Bryan Scarbrough (Tonya) and Steven Thornton Scarbrough. 5 grandchildren, Angel Pinkston, Maranda Scarbrough, Mallory Scarbrough, Rochelle Laster and Mikey Laster. 9 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Tennis Oliver and Rev. Bryan Thornton Scarbrough ; two grandsons, John Bryan Oliver and Jason Michael Oliver and 6 siblings.
