Tom Gargis – Obituary

Tom Gargis passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 72 years old in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama. His graveside service will be Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia, with Morrison Funeral Home directing.

Tom graduated from Deshler High School in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Marketing from the University of Alabama in 1970. While enrolled at the University, he was president of Pi Kappa Alpha. Tom moved to Atlanta to pursue his career in sales. He also served in the United States National Guard. Tom was an avid tennis player and enjoyed competing in the Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Milas Gargis and Ruby Ligon Gargis. He is survived by his brother, John Gargis (Kaye) of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Connie McIlwain (Mark); nieces, Lori Wild (Chris) and MaryEllen McIlwain Mayfield (Wesley); and a nephew, Joe McIlwain.

The family wants to express a special appreciation to Tom’s loyal and patient friends, Hughes and Susan Webb; his case manager, Emily Wright; and his “tennis buddies,” Mike Cavanagh, Keith Rosebush, Cliff McClur and Ted Dame.
