Gerry A. Meegan – Obituary

Gerry A. Meegan, 72, of Huntsville, passed away Monday. She was born in Washington, DC, and lived most of her life in Huntsville. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1963, earned a Bachelor’s degree  in 1970, and a Master’s in social work in 1986, both from the University of Alabama. She dedicated her life to helping others. During her many years of service she worked as a Child Protective Services caseworker for the Department of Human Resources, a Psychologist Assistant for Partlow State School and Hospital, and a Social Worker for North Alabama Regional Hospital. After retiring she continued to serve others by volunteering for the Clearview Cancer Institute, Meals on Wheels, and Churches United for People. She was an active member of Huntsville First United Methodist Church.

In her leisure time she enjoyed decorating, reading, spending time with her family, and travelling, with a particular interest in medieval architecture.

She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Allen, and is survived by her husband, Charles Meegan; daughter, Anna Stinson; and brother, Don Allen.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday June 22, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
