Linda McCaleb Johnson, of Sheffield, was called home by the Lord she so desperately loved on Friday morning, May 25, 2018 at the age of 68. She was surrounded by her loving family as she stepped into the presence of her King. Her visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Richard Parker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Linda was a native of Florence, a graduate of the University of North Alabama, and a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Sheffield. She was an elementary school teacher and media specialist for more than 30 years in the Sheffield City School System and later served as the media specialist for St. Joseph Catholic School in Florence, a school she dearly loved. She served in the Shoals District Service League and in various ministries over the years in First Baptist Church. She was a talented artist, painting beautiful pictures in water color and oil. She loved her art friends, whom she painted with weekly for years. She was an excellent cook and sewed beautifully. She was generous beyond measure and gave richly of her time and resources to quietly and sacrificially help others. She loved books, antiques, cats, and her flower gardens. But above all, she loved Jesus and her family. Her greatest pleasures in this life were knowing she was a child of the King, praising Him, and serving and loving her husband and children. She was kind, thoughtful and loving to all. She made life beautiful. Her unwavering faith in Jesus and in His goodness and her bold courage in the face of cancer were inspiring to many. God was her strength and her song, her very present help in times of trouble, her hope, and now, her very great reward. Her faith has now been made sight.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Bryan and Estelle McCaleb; and brother, Wayne McCaleb.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Mike Johnson; son, Jordan Johnson; daughter, Lorie Johnson; brothers, Alton McCaleb and Emory McCaleb; brother-in-law David Johnson (Faye); sister-in-law Lynne Johnson Weaver (Jack); brother-in-law Hollis Johnson and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and precious friends.
Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Marty McCaleb, Wesley Miller, Presley Williams, John Adams, and Ryan Weaver. If you feel so led, donations may be made in her memory to the Tennessee Valley Art Association, P.A.W.S or First Baptist Church of Sheffield.
