Florence Bicentennial Celebration for the MONTH OF JUNE is All About FRONTIER DAYS

FLORENCE – Mayor Steve Holt, along with Bicentennial Committee Chair Pat Burney, announced that for the month of June, the Florence Bicentennial Committee is looking to take it back.  ‘Way back that is, to the Frontier Days of Florence!

 

As part of the June festivities, the City will celebrate its earliest settlers with various events and attractions.

 

Frontier Days will kick off June 1, with the Frontier Days-themed FIRST FRIDAYS, a family-friendly event that takes place on Court Street in Downtown Florence, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

 

Next, Pope’s Tavern is the venue of choice with an outdoor event that celebrates the Frontier heritage with crafts, music and costumes typical of the period.  It is set for Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

In addition, June will feature:

  • The dedication of the John Coffee Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 2;
  • A performance by the Shoals Community Band at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, at the First Presbyterian Church;
  • A visit to the First Presbyterian Church Bicentennial Archives on Tuesday, June 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
  • A meet-and-greet for our Korean War Veterans on Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to Noon, at Pope’s Tavern;
  • And, the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will host the HOUSE & HOME EXHIBIT on loan from Washington, DC, featuring the housing evolution of the United States. The exhibit will run from Monday, June 18, through mid-August.  The KD Center is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
