Larry David Carlson, age 74, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fort Scott, Kansas in October of 1943 where he lived as a child. He moved to Alabama where he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Alabama afterwards. He spent time in Birmingham working for the State Highway Department. He moved to Fairhope, Alabama for a fried time before moving back to Fort Scott, Kansas in 1975. He spent his last working years with the Kansas State Highway Department and retired in 2009. His passion has been guns for many years. He spent his retirement years working on, making, buying, and selling guns. Fort Scott Gun and Pawn provided him a place to share his knowledge of “all things gun.”
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 18th, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Diamond Community Church in Fort Scott, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur F. and Lorena M. Ballou Carlson; sister Mildred Askew; and brother, Norman Carlson.
He is survived by his children, Kimberly L. Foster (Bruce) of Mobile, Al., Lance D. Carlson (Christy) of Gardendale, Al., and Lisa C. Decker (Steve) of Chelsea, Al.; grandchildren, Malena Rathbone (Russell), Adam Bains (Kate), Andrew Bains (Victoria), Susanna Bains, Elizabeth Bynum (Stephen), Rachel East (Andrew), Daniel Decker (Jessica), and seven great grandchildren; brothers, Pail Carlson of Birmingham, Al., Ralph Carlson (Sandra) of Fort Scott, Kansas, Don Carlson (Mim) of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Gerald Carlson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
