The graveside memorial service for Ruth Moon Browning, wife of the late Francis Harold Browning of Spartanburg, SC, will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. C.S.T. in the Ashland City Cemetery with the Reverend Rusty Craig officiating.
Mrs. Browning passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017. Born April 30, 1925 in Shreveport, LA, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Roberta Manifold Moon. Ruth was raised in Ashland, AL where she met her soulmate and the love of her life when she was just 13. She received a degree from the University of Montevallo in 1945. Ruth and Harold were married on September 5, 1948 after his return from service in the U. S. Navy and prior to his senior year at Auburn University. Upon his graduation, they moved to Chicago, IL where they resided for five years, then to Hammond, IN, where they raised their three daughters, retiring to Spartanburg, SC in 1984.
Ruth devoted her entire life to her family as caregiver, counselor, nurse, chef, spiritual advisor and much more. She was a fully devoted follower of Christ and a mighty prayer warrior which helped sustain and carry her family through many difficult trials over the years. She loved to laugh, play games, shop and spoil her grand- and great-grandchildren. Ruth especially enjoyed music, one of her favorite songs being “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, played in her honor many times.
Ruth was the devoted mother to Rebecca Pulliam (Ed), Dana Blasi (Earl) and Jami F. Browning; grandmother to Stephanie, Alex and Adam Pulliam, Mark Toney, Dawn Blasi Castain (Tom) and Earl Blasi II; great-grandmother to Chloe and Thomas Castain, to whom she was affectionately known as “MaMoon,” and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, James Russell Moon Sr.; her sister, Annie Katherine Moon Haley; a nephew, James Russell Moon Jr. and a niece, Susan Nancy Moon.
Ruth died peacefully at home in the presence of her family after witnessing Auburn beat Alabama in an epic game. Go War Eagles!!!
Those wishing to pay tribute to Mrs. Browning are invited to attend her graveside service and meet her family at the Ashland City Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ben Avon Baptist Church, 2437 Wallace Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29302 where Ruth had been a member since 1985.
