 Wynn Oldham
March 14, 1953 – May 1, 2018

She wouldn’t want us to write about her, but we’re going to do it anyway. Call her Wynn.  Call her Ya-Ya.  Just don’t call her Francis.

The Huntsville community lost one of its most dear, selfless residents, and Mezza Luna and Dolce Pan lost one of their most loyal customers.  Wynn Oldham died peacefully in her sleep early morning on May 1, 2018.

Have we mentioned she didn’t like recognition?  Deal with it, Winnie. Wynn moved to Huntsville in the late 1970s. And she never stopped moving. She was a trained elementary school teacher with a Master’s in Education, but ask Wynn her occupation and her answer was instant and succinct: mother, grandmother, and community volunteer

She was one of the founding members of Hospice of Huntsville and served on its board for many years, devoting substantial time to training its volunteers.  She was active with the Junior League, including a gleeful stint conducting the Rainbow Rhythm Band.  And for more than the past decade, she became a fixture in Huntsville and Decatur community theater as a makeup artist, backstage therapist, and enjoyer of good wine and most any rye whiskey.

Somewhere she’s drinking rye, feigning anger at us writing this.

(Francis) Wynn Hamilton Oldham was born on March 14, 1953 in Mobile, Ala.  She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alexander Price Hamilton, Jr. and Alma Nance Hamilton.  She is survived by her husband, Henry; sister Nancy (John) Bagby of Birmingham, Ala.; children John (Dawn) of Southbury, Ct.; Michael (Robyn) of Woodstock, Ga.; and Laura (Morgan) McCann of New York, NY; four grandchildren; and an innumerable list of beloved relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church on Friday, May 4th at 12:00 p.m. Her memorial service will follow, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Wynn asks that individuals donate to either Still Serving Veterans, 626 Clinton Ave W., #200, Huntsville, AL 35801; or Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater, 3312 Long Ave, Huntsville, AL 35805 (Attn: Karen Mockenstrum).
