Oliver James “O.J.” McBrayer, Jr., of Muscle Shoals, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the age of 89. His visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Woodward Avenue Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Tom Whatley and Dr. William Rushing officiating. Entombment will be in a mausoleum in Franklin Memory Gardens.
O.J. was a native of Franklin County and a veteran having served during the Korean War. He retired from the Franklin County Board of Education where he served as a coach, principal and in administration during his time there. He had a B.S. in Science from U.N.A. and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and an EDS in Administration from Mississippi State University. O.J. was a member of the Woodward Avenue Baptist Church, the Masons, the Civitan Club and the Kiwanis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Daniel McBrayer; daughter, Jamie McBrayer Hays; brother, Bruce McBrayer (Faye); sister, Ruth Edwards (Bill); and grandchildren, Anna Margaret Hays and Jacob Mitchell Hays.
Pallbearers will be Brian Lindsey, Jake Hays, Anthony McBrayer, Gregory McBrayer, Dennis Conner and Alton Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hooper and James Hooper.
