David Robert “Uncle Bob” Cairns, 69 of Hayden, Alabama was reunited with his parents in Heaven on Monday, February 26, 2018.
Born on January 9, 1949 in Birmingham, AL to Thomas Jr. and Jeannette (Roberts) Cairns. He grew up in the Sandusky community and graduated from Minor High School in 1967. As a young adult, he obtained a degree in Electronic Engineering.
He worked several years at WBRC 6 and WYDE Radio. He began working with his brother, Bill in 1975 as they built their businesses, Sign Builders, Inc. and Crazy Bill’s Fireworks, Inc.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved shooting skeet, dove, and quail with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Graysville Gun Club. He shot in several National Skeet Shooting competitions where he ranked among some of the best in the country.
No matter their ages, he was called “Uncle Bob” by most everyone. Frequently he was seen passing out dollar bills to children and showing off pictures of Andrew and Emily. Always seen in a blue denim shirt, blue jeans, knife belt buckle, extremely large boots, and moving mustache that would amaze and entertain children for hours. He was either saying something funny or giving folks a nickname that would stick with them forever.
Medical problems began many years ago for Bob. But, by the power of God, and against all odds, he would overcome and recover from each episode. Beverly never leaving his side. He would always say “I guess God isn’t finished with me yet”. This time, our Lord called him home.
Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly (Stevens) Cairns; daughter, Susan Pearl; son-in-law, David Pearl; and grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Pearl; sister, Jenny Cairns; brothers, Bill (Laura) and Mark (Debra) Cairns; aunt, Peggy Crauswell; best friend Charles Borella, and many more family members and friends.
